The length of the wall is 3,720 miles. Richard Nixon said it was 2,484 miles long, while Time magazine favored 1,684 miles. What is a fact is that the Great Wall of China extends from Kansu in the west to the Yellow Sea in the east.

The Section of Great Wall: There are six sections of the Great wall opened to the visitors in Beijing. Among them, the Badaling is the most popular one. 130 million tourists from China and abroad have visited Badaling, 370 foreign leaders and very important persons have come to climb Badaling successively.It lies 45 miles away at the northwest of Beijing. The highest point here is more than 2,400 feet above sea level.
The Mutianyu is considered as the most beautiful sections among six sections of the Great wall opened to the visitors in Beijing. The Mutianyu Great Wall has the largest construction scale and best quality among all sections of Great Wall. Many foreign top leaders have visited Mutianyu Great Wall. Among them are John Major, former prime minister of Britain, and Bill Clinton, former president of the United States. The unique feature in this section is which has double side battlements on the both side of the wall (other five sections only has battlement on the outer side and parapet in the inner side ).
The Simatai section of the Great Wall, 120 kilometers from the city center, is 5.4 km in length with 35 watchtowers in all. Its construction started in the early Hongwu years (1368-1398) of the Ming Dynasty. Built hundreds of years ago, the Simatai Great Wall still retains all its original appearance. It not only incorporates a variety of styles of other parts of the 10, 000-li-long wall, but also displays some unique characteristics. |
