Xian Xi'an, once called Chang’an in Han Dynasty, is the capital of Shanxi Province. As one of China's seven ancient national capitals, it served as the capital for 12 dynasties spanning more than 1,000 years. The city’s capital status lasted for 1608 years. Visiting China, Xi’an is undoubtedly one of the must-visit cities. Terracotta Warriors and Horses
35 kilometres (20 miles) east of Xi'an, at the foot of Lishan Mountain. In the early spring of 1974, the terra cotta warriors were accidentally discovered by Chinese peasants while digging a well. It has been called the “eighth wonder of the world”. They are the largest pottery figurine group ever unearthed in China. The museum covers an area of 16,300 square meters, divided into three sections: No. 1 Pit, No. 2 Pit, and No. 3 Pit respectively. Some 8,000 life-sized warriors with their individual features and facial expressions, line up in battle-readiness demonstrate a powerful military array under the rule of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, 2,200 years ago. An unearthed bronze horse-driven chariot is the largest bronze ware ever found in the world. |
City Wall
Erected during the Ming Dynasty (1638-1644), it is the world's largest and best-preserved ancient fortress. It is also a symbol of great significance of the famous historic cultural city of Xian. The wall stands 12 meters (40 feet) tall, 12-14 meters (40-46 feet) wide at the top and 15-18 meters (50-60 feet) thick at the bottom. It covers 13.7 kilometers (8.5 miles) in length with a deep moat surrounding it. Every 120 meters, there is a rampart which extends out from the main wall. All together, there are 98 ramparts on the wall and each rampart has a sentry building, in which the soldiers could protect the entire wall without exposing themselves to the enemy. |
Bell Tower and Drum Tower
The bell in the Bell Tower and the drum in the Drum Tower have been referred to as "the Morning Bell" and "the Dusk Drum". The Bell Tower is in the center of the downtown area .In ancient times ,Every morning the bell in the tower would strick the time, And every day at the dusk the drum in the another tower, which is 500 meters northwest of the Bell Tower would tell the time. The base of Drum Tower is 1,924square meters in size, and 34 meters high. |
Huaqing Pool
35 kilometers east of the city of xi'an .It was known as Huaqing Palace and also had the name "HuaqingPool " because of its location over the hot springs.In Tang Dynasty ,Emperor Tai Zong ordered the construction of Hot Springs Palace,and Emperor XuanZong had walled palace built around the Lishan Mountain in the year 747 which was known as Huaqing Palace. |
Provincial History Museum
, which houses a large collection of historic and cultural artifacts unearthed in Shaanxi Province. The museum is a large Tang-style stone buildings with white tile eaves occupied an area of 65,000 square meters (16 acres). |
Great Mosque
was set up in 742 AD during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) which was the religious center for Arab & Persian merchants operating in China. The Great Mosque was built in the shape of a rectangle from the east to the west, and is subdivided into four courtyards each with historically fascinating religious records and is one of the oldest and best-preserved mosques in China.

Big Wild Goose Pagoda
is one of the famous Buddhist pagodas in China, 4 kilometers away the city. In Tang dynasty, the renowned monk Xuan-zang translate Buddist Scriptures there.
