Shanghai Shanghai, with a population of more than 18 million (and over 5.8 million migrants), is one of the most populous and most developed cities in China. Shanghai was the largest and most prosperous city in the Far East during the 1930s, and remained the most developed city in Communist China. In the 1990s Shanghai again became an attractive spot for tourists worldwide. The city has a status equivalent to a province, and reports directly to the central government. It has Jiangsu province to the north and Zhejiang to the south, and includes the third largest island in Greater China - Chongming Island. Shanghai is China's largest city, its largest port and its largest industrial base. It has the best shops and restaurants in the country and the most fashionable people. It is called "the dragon head" of East China, the leading force driving the economy forward. | |

The Bund
The picturesque Bund, extending for 1.5 km on the shore of the Huangpu River, is a symbol of China’s prosperous future and Shanghai’s international past. The most visible reminder of Shanghai's colonial heritage, Bund" derives from an Anglo-Indian word for an embankment along a muddy waterfront. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, It was China's Wall Street, as Shanghai's financial market became the third largest in the world (behind London and New York). It also offers a captivating view of the modern Pudong with its Oriental Pearl TV Tower and numerous majestic skyscrapers. |
Yuyuan Garden & Baz
First built in 1559 and completed in 1577, more than 400 years ago. Yuyuan Garden, established as a private garden in central Shanghai, is one of the finest well-preserved ancient gardens in China. Occupying an area of two hectares, it divides into six scenic areas and it is a MUST for all visitors to Shanghai. The neighboring Yuyuan Bazaar, known among old-timers as "Old City God's Temple Market", is a rising tourist and shopping center where visitors loitering among a cluster of shops, restaurants and recreation facilities invariably find themselves making a tour of discovery of local folklore and Ming and Qing architecture. |

Jade Buddha Temple
was built in 1882 but after all those years it remains in perfect condition as a sanctuary of Zen Buddhism. The temple derived its name from a jade statue of Sakyamuni from Myanmar. The image of the Buddha, his graceful posture, and the serene and calm look on his face are, to put it just in one word, mesmerizing. |
Oriental TV Tower
with a giddy height of 468 meters, It is the world's third tallest TV tower after the 553-meter CN Tower in Toronto and the 535-meter Moscow TV Tower. The tower becomes Shanghai's new landmark and a big magnet for tourists with its unique design composed of balls and columns.
